I’ve contributed to a Guideposts Devotional called Mornings With Jesus every year since its inception. Just turned in the manuscript for the new one, MWJ 2017. Here’s a little taste.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 KJV
My daughter Adelaide is the sweetest little thing. Out of all of the kids on the Triple F Ranch she probably gets into trouble the least, which may be why when she does, it’s kind of a big deal.
The other day she and her siblings and cousins made a bad decision. Instead of being where they were supposed to be, which was in the yard, they went into our house with no adults home, and made several messes. So they all got into trouble. Adelaide, who prides herself on making good decisions even when others don’t, took it particularly hard.
“I’d like a plate of forgiveness with a side of mercy.”
I had to laugh, and she did too. “You’re already forgiven, don’t you know that?”
“Yes, but I still feel yukky.”
Can’t we all relate? Sometimes when we do something wrong, it’s hard to feel like we’re forgiven. But we have to trust in the promise we have in Jesus. Feelings can be liars, but Jesus is the truth. Click To Tweet
This actually applies to all sorts of things. We may feel alone, but the truth is Jesus never leaves us or forsakes us. We may feel anxious, but He is our peace. We may feel unloved, but He promises nothing can separate us from His love. And no matter what we’ve done, Jesus promises to forgive us.
Faith step: Pray this prayer. Jesus, I confess my sin of ____________ to you. Based on your promise in 1 John 1:9, I receive your forgiveness now and choose to walk with you in newness of life. Thank you for forgiving and cleansing me. Amen.
